resplendent Quetzales, very active 22th of February 2018

Hello All, this season  I do see a lot of fruit on the trees for the Quetzales and three wattled Bellbirds.
The Quetzales are at this moment pretty active and even I did hear from guest about sightings of nest building.
So here a picture(s) of this morning, a little Quiz (first picture)...where is the bird :) (Click on the pictures to enlarge)
Greetings from Terry

nice birding trips and as a bonus a trip to the summit of Volcan Baru

Hello all, a busy time behind me, guests in the cottages, birding trips and Hans also quite a bit of trips. January was a good month for us... up to even a busier February. I was invited to go on a trip with other Audubon (Panama) members on a trip to the summit of the Volcano on the 29th of January. And so I did!  Wauw...it was 21 years ago that I was there, feels like yesterday....

2th of November 1997 me and Hans were on the summit, we were with a nice group of Panamanians from Panama city:
And last 29th of January 2018 I was on the summit with this nice group of different country's, all bird people; English, USA, Panama, Holland , all living in Panama:
Around 1pm we drove up (yes not hiking...) , did stop in a few areas.
Did see the Timberline Wrens and other highland birds.
Timberline Wren was a new bird for me . What a cuty!
We did see a nice Quetzal, they were quite busy with their calls and songs.
But one of my highlights of the trip was the Volcano Junco.
I did miss that one 21 years ago...

Yes that was a new bird too for me.
I had a very good view on them . Of course did enjoy the view and sunset.
The trip downhill is around 3 hours and of course bumpy.
We had a few stops on the way down. I love to stand still in the dark and did enjoy the full moon and the beautiful forest.
I am not so crazy with recordings, so for me was seeing the unspotted saw-whet Owl not so magic.
Happy for the other birders that they did see the little rare Owl (we did see 2 and 1 heard ...probably a pair what was answering each other, so that is good to know) and we did have also a good look on the endemic dusky Nightjar.

The next morning I did have a birding trip with two very new birdwatchers. Was still hyper from the day before . Specially the man.. he was really a birdwatcher, he did figure that out . I think he is hooked!!!
We did see great birds...even a highland Tinamou, very cute Spotted Woodquails, with their crest high up! and a good sighting of  a three wattled Bellbird

I will add the list of these two days, down below...
Greetings from Terry!
