birding in Boquete ...a nice post of two ex birder guests and a note about booking sites

Hello All, we did have quit a bit of birdwatchers lately as guests, always great to see people walking around  with their binoculars or see them enjoying our cottages...
Two birdwatchers  did post a story about Boquete and yes... Tinamou cottage, so I like to share the link to their blog post:
https://albicillaexplorer.com/en/birding-boquete-quetzals-becard-christmas-traffic/#comment-458

When you do read their post , you will read that they did find the bird nr. 200 on our farm list...a rose throated Becard...female. I did see the bird also a couple of weeks later and 2 days ago in front of our balcony in the garden...I took a fast picture!

By the way.... sometimes we hear from guests...heeee you are not mentioned as a tour company on
tripadvisor ... or heee...you are not on booking.com
O.K. that is correct.
I think we are the only ones in Boquete who are not active with these kind of sites. Guest put us on Tripadvisor, that was not our initiative. Friendly when they post a review, but we don't ask for it. We don't want to bother people to do that. Mostly the guests who stay in our Tinamou cottages are very hard working people and have a busy life. We think it is not nice to ask to write a review, while they are on vacation.
Booking sites...we like to be our own boss... simple as that. Hans is the webmaster of our website and we are still in some travel books...
A lot of companies don't understand us at all...well we are very happy with our approach and love our life and work here in Panama. And of course we are totally happy when we get a nice review  and sweet mails and that nice post where I was starting with ...
Thank you and greetings  from Terry

ruta sur ..connection Boquete to Volcan area ..almost ready...casi listo

I remember as the day of yesterday.. the goverment of president Mireya Moscoso (1999-2004) did have an idea to make a connection with Boquete to Volcan /Cerro punta ..to make a road on the sendero los Quetzales . They did give it the name "camino Ecologico" In that time I was guiding tourists also on the sendero and did see 3 x surveys and that was heart breaking.... People with machetes were making space and put metal nails in the soil...while Quetzales were flying above them in March 2003 (last survey). I got questions about this, I did not want to spoil the hike/birding ...but you can understand, people got upset. In that time I was even wondering if Panama was the country that I wanted to live in...We did have a lot of meetings in that time with people for and against this road. Protests in green clothing... there was an alternative... ruta sur... Why not? it would help more communities, ... and you will safe the sendero los Quetzales in "national park Volcan Baru"!! After a big battle the protesters..young and old Panamanians .. won... and see here in my small video the result...the connection is a fact ...ruta sur is a fact... bravo! Greetings Terry van Niekerk

Of course I did have my camera and my binoculars with me, so we could spot very nicely the masked Ducks (this time 2 females and 3 males) and more birds and a nice Tiger Rat Snake..  great morning!!Of course down below the bird list... Masked Ducks on the Golf course in Boquete

This afternoon on the 4th of January 2019, we had time to check out the small lake on the Lucero Golf course in la Estrella , Boquete.
I did go birding  there with Colleen Lal , when she and her husband Raideep (big golfer) purchase the property and then it was forest , streams and mainly meadows....
We did have Barbeques in the night on the lakes and enjoyed the silent, starry skies.
They were good friends.
They had a vision of a golf course.. where nature will be also playing an important part. Keep the forest areas and streams and keep the nice trees, new trees will be only the trees who are belong there.
Unfortunately they both passed away on a very young age. We still miss them and until now we only went to Lucero to visit friends and the restaurant for 2 x. Never did go into the area  anymore, too sad.                                      Raideep and Colleen:

But today we did go...we walked to the lake and we did see masked Ducks and other birds (see list down below)

We did love our walk, talked about the good memories and we think that Raideep and Colleen  would be happy with the golf course. And they would be absolutely happy with  these rare beautiful Ducks.
We felt so happy and I wanted to write this down on my blog..out of honor for them.
Down below the list.
Here some pics of the beautiful area...
