Christmas bird count 2017

And so another Christmas bird count behind us, most years I did go to finca Hartmann in Santa Clara and also this year,  my favorite spot on "the other side" of the Volcano Baru.
It was sunny and a nice breeze, nice people and good birds.

"My" birds of the day was  (probably a pair) the 2 white crowned Parrots, I did see them last time, year ago in Bocas del Toro region, nearby Palo seco forest reserve, but then they were in flight, so now I could even take a picture and had a long look at them!

"invasion" of the yellow rumped Warbler

Hello everybody,
yes I did see a new bird, the yellow rumped Warbler (Myrtle race). I did see the birds on a altitude of 1350 meters, 3 of them in a mixed flock. Two of them was a female and one a juvenile male (picture) and I was excited, so then I am late with taking pictures, because I always like to see the bird really good and enjoy that moment.
 Fortunately did hear them also, little calls,  checked it for sure on Xeno-canto, a site with bird calls and songs, very help full always for me.
And yes I do have a picture...

Time for flowers and Hummingbirds

Hello everybody!
Still we have some days of mist and clouds and rain...but also days with nice sunny mornings and in the afternoon some clouds and rain. Yes the dry season is coming and the signs are here.
The Hummingbirds are really active and easier to see... the flowers are already numerous!!
So let's give you an impression of the flowers...

lot's of energy in the forest!!! ( update 19th of October , see down below)

This morning finally I had more time to check out all those birds around us... high peak of migration birds, all day we hear the little sounds of them. They are very active so I took a video of a much easier bird, our bird ...the blue gray Tanager eating berries, but on the video you can hear the sounds of the migration birds!

While I was staring into the forest around the cottages with all those energetic birds, I was thinking...where is this reminding me of... suddenly I did know that.... last week friends of us did visit us with two kids of 5 and 7 years old, on the moment they did enter our house I felt the same energy as I felt this morning in the forest... hectic, sweet, energy, not organized, lovable, messy and enjoyable....



Anyway it was a good morning ..sun summer day and I love our farm, I don't blame the birds..what is more attractive then a water stream, muddy area, coffee trees, flowers, berries, open area, not organized messy dead woody areas....
