Yes I am somewhat late to write this blog , but I think never too late to tell about our day out on global big day. http://ebird.org/content/ebird/news/gbd2016/
Last year I did go to the Batipa farm with a small group of birdwatchers..this year I loved to go with my own husband and have a nice day out.
We were up at 5am. I had my breakfast on the balcony and the plan was to listen and when it was somewhat lighter to see the birds.
Of course May is the time to listen anyway, so much different songs.
A good start of the day was that the tropical screech Owl was flying by...fantastic! Unfortunately I did not hear ...like the day before and the day after the common Potoo.. well we cannot have them all on the list.
At 6 05 am we did go to the first spot, very close by, the Wilson's bridge.
Down below I will add my list of the 14th of May 2016
I only did see this bird in Bocas del Toro until now.
And I took a picture from this lazy scaly breasted Hummingbird ...
Costa Rican Brush Finch was for me a "lifer"(I think)...I did see before the stripe headed Brush Finch (I think) somewhere in the highlands, higher altitude, 7th of March 2001... 15years (oh my gosh!) ago on the Quetzal trail, this one is very simular, but it was exciting to see. I did check the web about this bird, because I was confused, still a little bit... "The Costa Rican brush finch is often treated as a subspecies of the stripe-headed brush finch (A. torquatus), but was determined a distinct species, together with the black-headed brush finch, on the basis of differences in vocalization, plumage, and genetics.[4] "
Subspecies...again!! Ahhhh.
Around noon we did arrive on the coast in Puerto Armuelles, first some spotting in town. I love the town with their nice wooden houses..so much history...
Then to the beach areas , checking out some small delta's, some creeks..we never did see so much Kingfishers. Also we took our time to watch from a bridge a family of 4 green Kingfishers, the parents were fishing and feeding their baby's, very nice!
We had a great day, came home around 7pm and right away I download my
ebird lists and checked out what other birders did that day, always fun
to have the feeling and knowledge that a lot of other birders all over the world went
out that day...
And so that was it...after this nice picture of the magnificent Frigatebirds...our list of that day...
Greetings Terry
