10th to 15th of March 2016

Nice birds lately..but the last couple of months I am a kind of worried about the migrant Warblers.
I did go out quit a lot in different areas to watch the birds, but I must say,  did not see too much migrants.
Normally when I was picking coffee , there were always groups of migrant birds around, this year...very slow!
I did go through lists of other areas in Panama(from other birders), but also in those list, it looks very slow with these birds.....is it the very warm dry season? Climate change? The very "dry" rainy season.
Curious what will happen the next coming weeks.
Two days ago the first big Hawk migration...big groups with broad winged Hawks.I was confused with the colors, the light was shining on them on a weird way. The next day I did see them first like on the picture and after that they got different light on them.Oh yes clearly broad winged Hawks Small movie: https://www.facebook.com/tinamoucottage/?fref=ts

Did see a couple of Swainson's Thrushes, so they are migrating. But like today...only 1 Wilson's Warbler and a chestnut sided Warbler and 1 American Redstart...well let's see what happens.
For the Trogons and three wattled Bellbirds...life is good..plenty of food for them!
Yesterday late afternoon(15th of March ) I did go out for the day with Dutch birders and we had great views on Quetzales .(bird lists see down below)
A white ring around the Quetzal :

I did make a small movie too... https://www.facebook.com/tinamoucottage/?fref=ts
Then last Sunday I took this picture of the scarlet thighed Dacnis male and female...better too see them when you click on the picture.
Hans and I did go on Friday to Rio Chico in David, to watch some birds there. Always exciting..but HOT! It was 33 Celcius at around 5pm, but we did see some nice birds...like this blue Grosbeak, he did have also already a female around him, that picture is blurry, so only the male picture...
Took a picture Monday late afternoon from this stripe throated Hermit in front of the little Tinamou cottage,  I thought it was a very cool picture...
And yesterday late afternoon finally a sharp picture of a green Hermit (I did count around 5 Hermits "song" > leks) in the cloud forest. He has yellow Pollen on his beak.

And so this was my story from the last few days, more exciting days to come!
Greetings Terry

what happend between 25th of February to 10th of March 2016...lifer...gray Kingbird

Not too much time to post on this blog.
A lot of work lately and so less time for the social media....
Today was my first day off... since ages. Still catching up with ironing, cleaning... but this afternoon we did go to David to do shopping and paying taxes :) and yes some bird watching along River Chico and yes a lifer for me!!! gray Kingbird! he was catching insects (with his colleages great Kiskadee and tropical Kingbirds) out of the river, every time when he was on a branch he was shaking himself. We gave up to take a picture, but the pictures were good enough to see some details and of course we had a good look on him with binoculars.
Also a nice view on the blue Grosbeak:
And much more.(down below the list of today)

I had quit a bit of birding trips in a lot of different areas, great birders in the cottages and sometimes in the night burning eyes from staring through the binoculars... :)
Some pictures of those days....on the Quetzal trail on the 1th of March 2016 the Masked Yellowthroat:
Also on the Quetzal trail a yellow winged Vireo, cute as ever:

Every time in cloud forest of course the Quetzal, welll it is the season for them:
I could not resist to take a picture from this female scintillant Hummingbird on a coffee tree( flowering) in Alto Quiel, Boquete:
The hormones are flying around , these male yellow faced Grassquits were very active to show off! (also on the Quetzal trail)

Huge amount of Mountain Thrushes on the Culebra trail ...a lot of berries are ripe now at this moment:

On the 5th of March I did see a huge migration of Turkey Vultures nearby Almirante ...Bocas del Toro.
By the way also today I did see a big group of Barn Swallows...the migration is on his way!
Also a lot of singing Trushes, fighting Saltators, thick billed Euphonia's collecting nest materials and Elegant Euphonia's making nests.
This nest is on our farm in front of the great Tinamou cottage ( http://coffeeadventures.net/Great_Tinamou_Cottage.html  )  Nest  of the stripe throated Hermit :
And this nest is from a Paltry Tyrannulet (Buena vista 3th of March 2016):
Ah and talking about Hermits...I did go yesterday with a couple to the Pipeline trail in Boquete...first time in ages!(that was always my birding spot already 20 years ago, did not change...only more people, but that makes that the birds are not shy) It was great and did found leks with green Hermits...very cool! One green Hermit was even "aggressive" to us when we did stare in the brush. ( pfff pfff temper temper!!!)
Here the bird list of today:
