Yes! a wedge tailed Grass- Finch and a nice crested Guan and more!

This morning ..early bird.. I wanted to check out an area where a did bird watching a few months ago .
I was still hoping for a wedge tailed grass Finch..very sady I did see that bird a long time ago in Alto Dorado Boquete, but it gets busy there and not too much pastures anymore which are suitable for this Finch.
After 2 hours I could not believe my eyes, two of them chasing eachother... excited and a kind of nervous I took a few pictures..after that I did observe and enjoy them good.
I thought I did not have one , they were really quick ...but on my computer at home ...there he was!
Okay..not the best picture ..but still he is on it.
Before that I had an excited moment because of a nice crested Guan who was staring at me...
And then not everyday birds that I see...spot crowned Euphonia's males and females..the females are stunning...
Yes yes not the greatest picture, I have a lot of patience to see and enjoy the birds...but to take pictures... handy but it has to go fast  for me.
And so also a picture of a white winged Becard ...
An other nice bird and good sighting was the sharp chinned Hawk.
Well all the birds are nice...but I must say that my day is 100000% good because of the wedge tailed Grass Finch
I will add my list down below...great birding morning.

24th of November ..Summer morning... birds and flowers

And suddenly after a lot of rain, a little bit wind from the north...a blue sky... perfect to go out and see birds and my dog was happy, he finally could come with me... only me and him and the nature and birds.

A great spot was a nice field  with all kinds of flowers, never did see so much scintillant Hummingbirds together, lost count.
I did count 11, but I think there were much more..and I did see very on expected a violet bellied Hummingbird..only 2 rufous tailed Hummingbirds, 3 snowy bellied Hummingbirds and 1 green violet Ear.
Great spot.
As on the picture, this area seems to be very good for birds of prey:
...but the first 3 hours  I did not see one..oh yes only 2 black Hawk Eagles, that's it.
The on my way back, it was pretty warm at that point..I did see 2 broad winged Hawks, road side Hawk  and an American Kestrel

I did see a lot of migrants, also around midday, they were pretty busy.
Around 1.30 pm I came home...happy! My dog Spot and me had a great long birdy sunny morning!

11th of November to 21th of November 2015..things that I never saw before

What a busy time, lot of nice birding trips and I did try some birding for myself.
Very nice guests in the cottages, they did send me some pictures, I will not put them all here, but I like to share (they are o.k. with it, thanks Erik and Frederike) A nice tropical Kingbird , we did see him eating this bug on  the birding trip:
And a red crowned Woodpecker , very nice picture:
Of course it is coffee picking season , so in between coffee picking I do see the birds passing by, which is great.
Our farm is really good for them..for the coffee trees a little bit  a problem , because we have too much shade trees and the coffee get's not enough light. So we have to make more light...but we did decide not to prune the big trees that and accept that we get more birds and less amount of coffee berries.
The coffee trees are looking pretty good and we will have enough coffee for ourselves and our guests.

I was watching some buff throated Satators and streaked Saltators eating the skin of coffee berries, I did see that before...but they also put the bean( with a sweet mucus around it) in their beak and "sucking" on it and then they spit it out..that is what I never saw before.

Then yesterday in the cloud forest a female and male white throated Hummingbird were sitting next to each other...clearly it is mating season for them and many other Hummingbirds. But you don't see these Hummers sitting next to each other..so that was special to see...that is what I never saw before. The poor girl she will built herself the nests , feed the little ones.
The man will chase away other Hummers, he is busy with that the whole year.

Then about the same male white throated Mountain Gem... we were watching him very good  and he was flashing cobalt blue down below his white throat , same color what he has a lot of times on his forehead.
..that is what I never saw before.
Unfortunately it is not on the picture...

And then today we found to "Porn" lizards, they were very happy (1750 m), I have to find out which species.
..that is what I never saw before.

And on Friday the 13th I did see this green Butterfly.. I did find the name...
Siproeta stelenes ( http://www.butterfliesandmoths.org/species/siproeta-stelenes ) .that is what I never saw before.

And so we live here more then 18 years and still we do see new things, what a great life!
Of course I do have quite a bit of bird lists and I download them on Ebird.
But the nicest list was the list from our own farm, I did go feeding the horses ..fortunately with my binoculars and in a very short moment ... Army Ants all over and of course a lot of birds!!!! yes I did see that before ...but every time those Ant swarms, I love to watch that!

And so almost 2 weeks passed by quick..almost December 2015.. I never had so much Dutch bird watchers on a trip like in this November month, all new great bird watchers, all enthusiastic, it was fun!
Also a great birding trip with our dear friends, every year they come 2 x and we go out together.
Sadly I cannot join the Christmas count this year on 20th of December... it is that day a crazy busy day with check ins and out and trips. Next year I hope!

This is a nice picture of a torrent Tyrannulet, took that yesterday... a good end of this blog story...

Yes, you are welcome to stay in one of our cottages in our forest...

some nice trips and a new bird on our farm... a long tailed silky Flycatcher

Yes I was just feeding the horses..and there they were... 2 long tailed silky Flycatchers, never did see them on our farm in the 18 years... what exciting.
According the bird book , it is occasionaly possible even until 1050 m. !(our farm is 1250 M)But mostly I do see them above the 1600 Meters.

Then a couple of nice trips the last week.
A Dad with 3 kids... 6 8 and 12 yeard, they were great!
Dad is crazy of birds(biologist from origin) and my kind of birder...enjoys every bird he is watching.
And of course they did see a Quetzal flying by... the kids were happy and "the high fives" were flying around.
Great morning!

Today I did go with a Dutch couple...first time ever for them to go out bird watching, always fun .

Still the birds are hiding quit a bit, normal for the time of the year, still we did see nice ones and the weather was great...also when the clouds came in...

a nice brown violet Ear doing his "song"high up in a tree:
