Finally a new post ! September 2017 a pair of tropical Gnatcatchers and more

September 2017... one day to go and October is there! Time is flying. September is a month where we paint..fix things... getting ready for high season. But September is of course also exciting because the migrant birds are coming back or coming through. My ears and eyes are open, well always, but now double sharp! A very great Warbler and a lifer for me was the yellow-throated Warbler on the continental Divide on the 24th of September.
The first migration bird this season was on the 12th of August ...a Louisiana Waterthrush. On 1750 meter alitude.
Then regular I do see the black and white Warbler (first one 14 th of  August on 1650 m altitude), American Redstart (first one 2th of September on 1250 m altitude), black burnian Warblers (first one 16th September here on the farm , 1250 m altitude) and the red eyed Vireo's ( first one 15th of September here on the farm)yellow bellied Flycatcher ( first one 6 September here on the farm) and of course the western Wood Pewee's see picture ( first one 6th of August on 600 m altitude)

Now it is waiting for the rest!!!

"Our birds" were pretty active in September and still ... young birds who were born in this year, fighting over territory. Even still everyday we have heard clay colored Thrushes singing on the farm. And always interesting that when there is a migrant bird coming through, some birds are upset with these newcomers. Specially the rufous capped Warblerssilver throated Warblers are quite territorial.
Never a boring moment in "bird country".

A lot of birds are molting, changing the feathers. So at this moment they hide more, keep themselves safe. And they do sunning (sunbaths) and  anting (Antbaths), both is about cleaning their feathers and get rid of mites and other parasites. Sunning can be also just warming up after a cold night, rain showers or just to relax. This is all a very short explanation, there is more to tell about this.
Anyway this pair of tropical Gnatcatchers were busy the whole morning  to take a sunbath. It was in front of our house on an old Squirrel nest, after the Squirrel left the nest, two blue gray Tanagers made a nest in it, then after that a thick billed Euphonia and bay headed Tanagers did use nest material from that nest...then the wind did damage the nest  and now it is flat "thing" where the pair of Tropical Gnatcatchers took their baths...isn't that cool!
                                          Male...
                                          Female....
And of course a you tube video, (I had to zoom in..did not want to disturb , this time I moved more then the energetic Gnatcatchers :) )

Down below I will add some bird lists from September.
Up to the month of October!... greetings  from Terry
