16,17 and 19th of April 2016

Today 19th of April 2016...finally a big rain shower on the farm.
A lot of nesting birds, singing birds.A nice time to be outside and have that "spring feeling"
This morning I did go to an lower altitude area (700m) where it rains more in the dry season, so still green fields.
It was a great birding morning on my own.
Last Sunday I did go high up in the mountains, the day before I was with other birders on the same trail (see list down below).. it was slower.
I love to be on that trail, I brought my dog, he is getting such a good  birdwatcher dog. He stayed behind or next to me and every time when I make a step, he is doing that too.
I was standing next to the river and thought...it is been ages that I did see a green fronted Lancebill..and as these thoughts were going through my mind...he was there! Catching flies above the river.
Sweet!  You can also watch a small video on Tinamou  cottage Facebook

This morning (19th of April)  I did see great birds...my highlight was the yellow throated Euphonia... I did see him in a huge tree...I was eating my apple and was staring at him... first lazy...I thought it was a thick billed Euphonia...but then I thought the yellow patch on his head was smaller and then the call he made...mmm...Binoculars...that is not a thick billed...that is a yellow throated Euphonia. At home I did check all the sound tapes and yes  a correct ID, great. Not a new bird for me...but a bird that I did not expect to see him  there.
Quit a bit of Migrant Flycatchers, here a cute  yellow bellied Flycatcher:
, a lot of Barn Swallows and the HUGE amount (like on our farm) of Swainson's Thrushes.
A good list this morning...
