A trip to cerro Batipa farm 20 January 2018

Hello all,
20th of February I was next to my bed at 4.30am, today I did go with a group of birders from Boquete to Cerro Batipa, lowland ... I was prepared...loads of water, a lot of food and covered in suncream.
I am not really a lowland birder, hot , but I was excited to see the birds on this property, because it is well protected by the owner Mr Rios( he did join us... I did go birding there before... see former posts.) and always a chance to see some shy birds.
I start with a video of "my" Veraguan Mango, that we brought a visit  on the way back. She is catching small insects, I did see that also today . Today(21th) we could see that she has at least one very naked tiny baby. I think she had already baby('s) yesterday.
Back to Batipa... we did arrive around 7am ..as a highland girl I love these fresh early mornings...

We were welcomed by a group of Howler Monkeys, these two are very cute!

We stopped several times and took a rough 4wd road up the hill to see a nice pont and some nice views and very nice birds.

Lot of least Grebes in this pont...
Nice display of chestnut backed Antbirds, I did see a lot of those . They were very active. And a lot of black hooded Antshrikes, I love the females, they are so colorful and pretty.
At noon it was lunch time, nice in the shade...
Around 2pm a lot of group members were heading back to Boquete.
Ann and I decided to stay and wait for the birds to be more active again. Fortunately dark clouds came in  and a nice breeze. Mr. Rios  let the gate open and so no stress...we had time and we took our time...lovely! On our way out we did see the cross over for  Monkeys and Sloths and other animals. The new road  to Panama city is ready and they did built already 4 crossings, great!

I think around 5pm we were home in Boquete...
Greetings from Terry
